Randje per week: my own additions

After finishing the last borders for Randje per week 2015 I had one more page to stitch. I finished it before I started on the Australia sampler, but I still had to share it here. These are the last borders on page 12. The tulip border came from a DMC border sampler, the others are my own design.
And this is the complete page, it’s the last one for my fabric book.

365somethings2018

In January I started a new challenge: 365somethings2018. For me this is playing with paint, markers, pencils, (hand carved) stamps, clippings, etc on paper. This can be collaging in an altered book, drawing on index cards, doodling or drawing in a Moleskine, painting on watercolour paper, etc. I also hope to participate in the zentangle challenges at I am the Diva from time to time. Sometimes I’ll share a few of my 365somethings2018 here, but you can follow my challenge on my Facebook blog or Instagram. These are a few examples of the last weeks.

I used the tangles Sonia and Huggins.
72/365: a collage in an altered book
74/365 & 75/365: the start of my alphabet series,
yesterday I finished a page with P’s
85/365: a collage doodle in a small journal which I received in a swap a few years ago.
87/365: a hand lettered quote
97/365: a face doodle in the small journal, it’s inspired by the books of Marieke Blokland
108/365: a collage doodle inspired by Caatje’s composition collage tutorial

Turtle

No time to blog, so all I have to share is the close-up of this tiny crocheted turtle.
I forgot to add it to this post.

Australia sampler

Years ago my mother started this Australia sampler for my father. She got a poor eyesight over the years, so now I’m going to finish it for my parents. I share an update from time to time to keep me going.

I finished this floral part on the sampler. There are 5 more items to stitch.
And this is how my sampler looks now. There are bigger/better photos at my Facebook blog.

It’s a Teesha Rainbow - BLUE

I participated in a series of swaps for Teesha Moore inspired patches with a rainbow colour. This was my last swap for this series. I sent these patches to Paula. It's a pity they didn’t arrive!
My first set of patches for Paula.
A Dutch patch with beads.
A patch with a crocheted turtle and feather stitch.
A closer look at the crocheted turtle.
So I made a new set for her, I’m glad they arrived safely.
My second set of patches for Paula.
An embroidered patch with bullion knots,
sheaf stitch and herringbone stitch.
A patch with buttons and cross stitches.

Beyond TAST

Beyond TAST is a season of 4-6 weeks that allows time to explore an aspect of a design, technique, style, or family of stitches. The second challenge is to explore isolated stitches. I’m stitching on an old Gingham TAST sampler with 9 squares.

On the third square I stitched star stitch in Caron Wildflowers.
On the fourth square I experimented with isolated zigzag stitch, which was a Sunday Stitch School stitch. The thread is Caron Wildflowers.
On the fifth square I made a pattern with isolated Chevron stitches in 2 threads of stranded DMC.

This can be collaging in an altered book, drawing on index cards, doodling or drawing in a Moleskin, painting on watercolour paper, etc. I also hope to participate in the zentangle challenges at I am the Diva from time to time. To get started I used the January prompts of Drawriotdaily. Maybe I do that again later this year. Sometimes I’ll share a few of my 365somethings2018 here, but you can follow my challenge on my Facebook blog or Instagram. These are a few examples of the first weeks.

9/365: a grey elephant

Beyond TAST

Beyond TAST is a season of 4-6 weeks that allows time to explore an aspect of a design, technique, style, or family of stitches. The second challenge is to explore isolated stitches. This reminded me of an old Gingham TAST sampler with (woven) detached chain stitch, fly stitch and sheaf stitch. First I devided it in 9 squares with chain stitch, which was the 6th TAST stitch. The thread is perle 12.

a close-up of the old stitches
The first isolated stitch I wanted to use was cross stitch. The thread is cotton a broder #25. I like the way these stitches change the Gingham.

Rooie finished!

In December I finished the cover for my altered book Rooie. I wrote about it here. The cover shrunk more than I anticipated, so I had to paint the edge of my original cover red. All I had to do was glue the cover to the original cover with mod podge for fabric. When it was dry, I only had to take photos, but with a very busy December I forgot all about it. Luckily Sharon started Beyond TAST with running stitch to explore for the first challenge. It’s a bit cheating, but this embroidery fits perfectly, especially because I had no time to start something new. All I do the last months is cross stitching the Australia sampler for my parents, which I hope to finish in a few months.

I didn’t share all pages from this book, some are just too personal. It’s my first finished altered book and I’m very happy with it.

Australia sampler

Years ago my mother started this Australia sampler for my father. She got a poor eyesight over the years, so now I’m going to finish it for my parents. I share a weekly update to keep me going.

Again a very busy week, but I finished the right half of the sampler.
The right half of the kangaroo has the backstitches. At the left half I need to add some more green at the tail before I can finish the backstitching. There’s already about 6 hours of stitching in this kangaroo!
And this is how the sampler looks now, it’s growing nicely.

Years ago my mother started this Australia sampler for my father. She got a poor eyesight over the years, so now I’m going to finish it for my parents. I share a weekly update to keep me going.
It was a very busy week, but I managed to add some stitches to the kangaroo.

A detail from the original pattern.
